The producers of Frost/Nixon announced that the play recouped its entire $2.5 million investment on Broadway during the week ending July 29, 14 weeks after opening at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Peter Morgan's Tony-nominated first play stars Tony winner Frank Langella as former President Richard Nixon and Michael Sheen The Queen as British talk show host David Frost. The play, which began previews on March 31 and opened on April 22, must close on August 19 so that the two stars can reprise their roles in a film version to be directed by Ron Howard.
Frost/Nixon, a behind-the-scenes look at the series of TV interviews between the disgraced former President and the interviewer with a playboy reputation, arrived on Broadway after a sold-out run at London's Donmar Warehouse, which then transferred to the Gielgud Theatre in the West End. A U.S. national tour of the play will go out in the fall of 2008.
In addition to Langella and Sheen, the cast features Remy Auberjonois John Birt, Shira Gregory Evonne Goolagong, Roxanna Hope Caroline Cushing, Corey Johnson Jack Brennan, Stephen Kunken Jim Reston, Stephen Rowe Swifty Lazar/Mike Wallace, Triney Sandoval Manolo Sanchez and Armand Schultz Bob Zelnick.
